Succession Planning at Infosys

In August 2011, the iconic founding Chairman of Infosys, Narayana Murthy, reached 65 and retired from the company.  As Chair of the Nominations and Governance Committee, one of my responsibilities was to lead the succession planning process, described by the Economic Times as "one of the most-tracked successions in corporate India."

The confidential process resulted in a strong new leadership team for the company:  K.V. Kamath became the company's first independent Chairman, company co-founder and ex-CEO S Gopalakrishnan became Executive Co-Chairman, and company co-founder S D Shibulal became CEO and Managing Director.
